to nearby surface water that the resident animals require
for their sustenance.
We can maintain a camp for up to 14 days before we have to refill our stock.
Garbage
Burying garbage in a pit encourages animals to dig up and scavenge off
campsites, changing their behavioural patterns and leaving an unsightly
scattered mess.
Our trash is sorted in camp into 2 sections, firstly the vegetablematter
that can be burnt, and the rest we take away which cannot!
We carry an incinerator that uses a small amount of firewood to burn
all vegetable matter efficiently.
Firewood
In most areas you will camp, you will notice how much firewood is available
due to the elephants use of trees. However, there are hundreds of species
of animals that require dead wood to survive.
Our camp crew are very aware of the amount of firewood they require. This
is basically your small campfire in the evening. We have found ways to
reduce the need of firewood in all other camp activities.
A hot shower?
We have found an old Indian design, a boiler that uses only a handful
of small twigs to boil 60 litres of water in 20 minutes, enough to supply
6 hot showers! Each camp has at least 2 boilers.
Solar Lights
Our camps use solar lighting and rechargeable torches with energy saving
bulbs. |
